Bridges with Dr. Eric Meyer

If you’ve had one tooth or multiple teeth extracted due to damage, decay or disease, it is important to have the resulting gap filled or your remaining teeth can shift out of position and become susceptible to further decay. One way to replace your missing tooth or teeth and prevent this shifting is with a dental bridge.

Called a bridge because a prosthetic tooth is suspended between two crowns to fill in the missing space, this natural-looking tooth structure is usually made from gold, metal, alloys or porcelain to ensure a strong and durable smile that can last for many years.

The process of creating a bridge usually takes two visits to our office in Fullerton, CA. During your first visit, Dr. Eric Meyer will create abutments out of the existing teeth on both sides of your gap. This is where the bridge’s crowns will be attached. After the abutments are in place, a mold is made of your mouth for creating the bridge, which will fit and feel as close to your natural teeth as possible. While you wait for the bridge to be fabricated in the lab, you will receive a temporary device for your convenience. Then, once the permanent device is completed, you will return to our office to have the crowns fixed to the abutments with an adhesive. The pontic between the crowns forms the bridge and replace your missing tooth or teeth.

Benefits of Digital X-rays

Dental technology has improved greatly over the years, enhancing every step of dental care, from diagnosis to treatment. New technology has even made dental X-rays safer and more convenient, and many dentists have adopted digital radiography to view their patients’ teeth.  At our office, we have many state-of-the-art technologies, including digital X-rays, to provide our patients in Fullerton, CA with the best dental care available.

Digital X-rays are taken in a similar manner to traditional X-rays that use film, but rather than placing film in the patient’s mouth, a digital sensor is used. This sensor is connected to an imaging program on a computer that projects the image, allowing Dr. Eric Meyer to view your teeth more closely and with better accuracy than traditional dental X-rays. Better images mean that there is a greater chance that the dentist will spot potential problems and be able to fix them before they become more serious or possibly more painful. In addition to better accuracy, digital radiography produces 90 percent less radiation than regular film X-rays, granting peace of mind to those who take X-rays frequently.

Whichever treatment you’re receiving at our practice, from a regular check-up to dental implants, we will strive to provide you with the best service with the most up-to-date technology.

Veneers with Dr. Eric Meyer

If you’re unhappy with the way your smile looks, you don’t have to live with it. Veneers are an effective method for reshaping and redesigning your smile in Fullerton, CA. Whether your teeth have gaps, persistent stains, cracks, chips or other issues, these thin, porcelain or ceramic shells can cover the existing tooth structure in your mouth to give you a smile you will be proud to show off.

Having veneers placed usually only takes two to three visits to our office. During the first visit, you will discuss the shape and look of the smile you want to accomplish with Dr. Eric Meyer. Then the dentist will prepare your teeth for the upcoming veneers.

Once the enamel has been prepared, an impression will be taken of your mouth so that the veneers can be fabricated to fit over your existing teeth. Once they are completed, the veneers are bonded to your teeth to create an attractive smile that both looks good and feels natural. With proper home care and the help of Dr. Meyer, you can enjoy your new smile for 5 to 10 years before the veneers should be replaced.

Soft Tissue Graft in Fullerton, CA

A soft tissue graft is a procedure that is performed to correct significant gum recession in a particular area of your mouth. While slight gum recession can usually be corrected by a few changes in your oral hygiene routine, if the gums recede too far, you will need the help of a professional. In Fullerton, CA, the professional that patients trust for soft tissue grafting is Dr. Eric Meyer.

When your gingiva, or gum, recedes, it exposes more area of your teeth and increases your risk of infection and bacterial penetration. In addition, gum recession can lead to heightened sensitivity to hot and cold foods. If gum recession progresses to the point that the root is exposed, more serious problems can arise. Since the root is softer than the enamel of your teeth, it is much more vulnerable to bacteria and plaque. If the root becomes infected, a root canal will be required.

To restore gums to optimal gum level, soft tissue grafting is used. Soft tissue is either removed from the root of the mouth or is repositioned from healthy areas of the teeth. The procedure is fairly routine and has a high success rate.

If you’re gums are receding, it is important to correct it before more serious problems develop, and at our office, Dr. Meyer can help restore your mouth’s health and functionality with a soft tissue graft.
