Avoid Stains for Whiter, Brighter Teeth!

Bright and shiny teeth are something so many of us desire, but with certain favorite foods or daily habits we have, it can be hard to keep them that way. Staining teeth is unfortunately pretty easy to do. Dark foods, drinks, and smoking will slowly darken teeth if the right steps are not taken to prevent it. Remembering to brush your teeth two to three times per day can help reduce plaque and reduce the staining that takes place as a result. Make it a goal to brush in the morning, in the afternoon, and before bed. Also, remember to floss, as skipping it can also lead to staining.


Sip dark liquids like coffee or cola through a straw. This limits the amount of contact the drink has with your teeth, almost passing them up altogether! When it comes to smoking, quit! Smoking not only stains teeth, but it stains breath and wreaks havoc on oral tissues. Not to mention the risk of cancer and the effects it has on your lungs and cardiovascular system.


One more tip for those looking to achieve a bright, white smile: skip the baking soda! Many take this “homemade” recipe for white teeth way too far. Baking soda is very abrasive; so abrasive that it can wear down enamel, revealing the darker dentin of your teeth. A darker smile is the opposite of what you’re going for. Plus, it can lead to more cavities and sensitivity.
